Our take
Perfect for those looking for a workout plan that grows with them.
Okay, so the Fitbod app is one of those workout apps that tries to be your personal trainer in your pocket. It's got this neat way of creating personalized workout plans based on the equipment you have and your fitness goals. What’s cool is that it adjusts your workouts based on your past performance and goals. If you’re the type who gets bored easily or doesn’t know where to start at the gym, this could be pretty handy. But, if you already have a routine you love or a specific program you're following, you might not find much use for its suggestions.
The interface is pretty intuitive, which I appreciate. You don’t need a degree in computer science to figure it out. Everything is easy to find, and the exercise instructions are clear and simple. It’s like having a buddy who knows what they’re doing without being all in your face about it. There’s a good mix of exercises too, so you're not stuck doing the same old squats and push-ups every day. However, sometimes the app's recommendations can feel a bit random, like it’s throwing darts at a board to decide your next workout.
What’s really interesting is the way it tracks your progress. The app logs your workouts and gives you a breakdown of what you’ve accomplished. This tracking feature is a double-edged sword, though. It’s great if you’re motivated by seeing your progress, but if you’re a bit lax with logging or forgetful, it can feel more like a chore than a benefit. Plus, if you’re not hitting the gym regularly, those empty logs can be a bit of a guilt trip.
Now, on the downside, the app isn’t free. There’s a subscription fee, which, let’s be honest, can add up over time. If you’re someone who’s committed to hitting the gym regularly, it might be worth the cost. But if you’re just dipping your toes into fitness or still figuring out if you’ll stick with it, that cost might feel a bit steep. And while the app does a lot, it doesn't replace the expertise of a personal trainer or the camaraderie of a group class.
All in all, the Fitbod app is solid if you’re looking for something to shake up your routine or if you need a bit of guidance in the gym. It’s not perfect, though. There are trade-offs, like the subscription cost and the occasional randomness of workout suggestions. But if you get past those, it’s a decent tool to have in your fitness toolbox. Just remember, like any tool, it works best if you use it consistently and let it adapt to your needs.
