SoFi Money is a cash management account offering high-yield interest, no fees, and a range of financial services under one roof.

Our take
A standout choice for high-yield savings and spending.
So, SoFi Money is kind of like a checking and savings account mash-up, minus the old-school bank vibes. It's not your typical bank account, since it's all online, which can be awesome if you hate dealing with branches. But here's the kicker: you earn interest on your balance, which is something your dusty old checking account probably doesn’t offer. That said, the interest rate isn't gonna make you rich overnight, but it's definitely better than nothing.
One of the standout perks? There's no account fees. No monthly maintenance fees, no overdraft fees, nada. That's a real win if you're tired of getting nickeled and dimed by traditional banks. But, let's be real: free ain’t always perfect. You might find yourself missing out on some features like cash deposits. You can’t just waltz into a bank and deposit cash, which can be a bummer if you deal with a lot of it.
ATM access is pretty sweet here. They've got you covered with a huge network of free ATMs. So, if you're like me and hate paying ATM fees, that’s a big plus. But, if you wander outside their network, those fees can sneak up on you, so watch out. The card is a Visa debit, which works pretty much anywhere, but again, you gotta be mindful of those out-of-network charges.
Now, customer service is another story. It's not bad, but it’s not gonna win any awards either. It's mostly online and through the app, which is super convenient if you prefer chatting over calling. But if you ever need that human touch, you might find your patience tested. They've got a decent app that's user-friendly for the most part, but like any app, it can have its off days where it just doesn’t want to cooperate.
If you're into budgeting and tracking your money, SoFi Money has some neat tools. They make it easy to see where your dollars are going. But, it's not as robust as some dedicated budgeting apps out there. So, if you're a hardcore budget nerd, you might want a little more oomph in that department. Bottom line: it's a solid option for a fee-free, online-centric approach to managing your money, but it's worth considering what conveniences you might miss from a traditional bank.
